Area Schools

Milford Central School District

Milford, the Town and Village, are both highly desirable locations when people are choosing places to live, but it isn’t just the fact that the area is so centrally located between Cooperstown and Oneonta. The Milford Central School District is a big draw for many families with its reputation for quality education, low teacher to student ratio and small enrollment numbers.

The Milford Central School District, located in Otsego County, is considered one of the best rural district in NY state. The district manages one public school that offers enrollment to pre-kindergarten through 12 grade students. Currently, the school serves about 450 in their expansive building at 42 West Main Street outside the village of Milford. The school’s stated mission is to provide all students with the knowledge, skills, and values to become productive participants in a changing world. A caring staff will ensure successful, challenging experiences that will instill a life-long love of learning.

In their effort to ensure each student receives the best education possible and access to the necessary tools, Milford Central School District places an emphasis on technology and innovation. Middle and high school students are supplied their own Chromebooks that they can use throughout the school year, at home and in school. In keeping with this focus on technology, the school has set up an eSchool Home Access Center website, as well as a smartphone app that synchronizes with digital calendars-both tools to streamline and support students and parents.

The district provides a variety of elective classes as well as basic educational needs such as college prep courses. Along with educational needs, the district provides Academic Intervention Services after school hours for tutoring purposes for those students who may need extra assistance, and a Special Education Department. Additionally, in support of its belief that all students learn more in a kind, supportive environment, the MCS has implemented the Dignity for All Students Act. In accordance with this Act the school provides age-appropriate discussions to teach and promote respectful behavior and creates an environment free of discrimination and harassment that fosters civility within the school and the community.
